CULTURAL VISIT on CEPSI 2012 in Bali

In the opinion of Executive Director of CEPSI, Andri Doni, 19th CEPSI of 2012 held in Bali is based on the instruction of MKI National Conference in the year 2008. On that occasion we targeted Indonesia to be the host in 2012. Based on the goal setting to be achieved, Based on the goal setting to be achieved MKI has established its own directorate to perform its duties to make CEPSI a success. IN CEPSI 2008 in Macao, MKI sent a team and made a presentation in order to make Indonesia to be the host of CEPSI in 2012.

Doni further expressed that CEPSI was an event held every two years, the owner of which was AESIEAP, an utility company organization in East Asia and West Pacific area. Its members comprise 112 institutions from 35 countries. AESIEAP’s annual agenda shall be to hold meetings called CEO Meeting. Every two years, coinciding with CEO meeting Conference of Electrical Power Supply Industry (CEPSI) is also held. Each year their CEOS hold a meeting like the meeting we held in Manado the last time. In the year 2012 there will be also a conference coinciding with CEPSI big conference.

“What makes CEPSI different from CEO Conference is their agenda. Usually, if CEO holds a conference it only takes one day that the country carrying out the event always call it as a one day seminar. For instance, the event in Kowsung Taiwan only took a day. On the same day, in the afternoon, the CEOS held an annual meeting” said Andri Doni.

Meanwhile, CEPSI CEO conference was only held half day, yet the event lasted for one week. Normally 3-4 days will be for conference, 1 day for technical visit. The technical visit to be conducted in Bali will be replaced by a Cultural Visit. This is the difference between the CEPSI held in Bali and those held in Macao in the year 2008 and in Taipei (Taiwan) in the last 2010
In 2014 CEPSI will be held in Korea, the host is KEPCO. So we can expect that in Bali, Korea will also send its team. Since Korea will be the next host.

The secretary General of Indonesia Electricity Community further explained his reason as to why the event in Bali will be cultural visit instead of technical visit. In his opinion, after 3 days the delegates would attend full conference the theme of which shall be definitely related to electricity issues as in this CEPSI the big theme to be discussed would be green energy and investment opportunities connected to potential power plant and electric market development.

The agenda of activity will be one day only. In the CEPSI event it was called a technical visit such as visiting power plant, cogeneration plant. When we were in Macao we visited West Bio Mass or when we were in Taipeh we went to nuclear power plant. We proposed a cultural visit for Bali event because the participants have discussed such matter several times. There are 1o destinations in Bali we try to promote and we package in an event of cultural visit.

So what we wish to be realized in Bali during the event is discussion in technical aspect in detail because CEPSI is known as a non commercial oriented conference so its different from POWER GEM Asia Power Gem Asia is a commercial conference, and its participants carry out more demonstrations of commercial products, conversely, CEPSI has more scientist. 50 percents of its participants are academicians, institutional research, that’s why CEPSI is more prestigious within electricity conference as politically it is different from Power GEM, etc.
Why should companies attend? First of all, this event is a meeting place for stakeholders of all west pacific regions in electricity sector. This momentum, is always used by original equipment manufacturers possessing technology to be able to interact with scientist from campus stimulating their Research and Development to sell high tech products and they will also meet utility companies. This is their market. So this is a place for meetings for the experts that may help industrial circles find the recent product innovation with more high tech, efficient and marketable.

In this CEPSI event, there are 100 papers, 400 of which will be presented in a technical session prepared in 16 rooms. There are 4 speakers in a room and we will be more selective. This makes this conference different form, the others. Only scientific papers are presented rather than the commercial ones.. There is also a new innovation, smart grid, for instance. They will talk about efficiency of grid system. Plant, turbine gas and any recent innovations will also be discussed there

To make CEPSI in Bali more complete, the a committee will also carry out exhibitions allocated for 2500 participants in the area of 2200m2. By CEPSI of the year 2012 it is expected that it will be a momentum for the electricity world in Indonesia. The topic much talked about is plant issue, whereas in the other countries people have talked about smart grid issue. We have to understand that in Asia Pacific Countries we are not a more developed country in providing power. It is proved that our country is in the condition of power shortage, that’s why electrical development of 10.000 MW is required. We are the only country that has this program, while other countries are already settled in this matter. The focus of electricity development in Our country is still on basic structure. The countries which have passed through this stage have thought about the most up to date electricity issues, that is smart grid, so we should not be surprised if in the next 15 years we will find out that Petrol stations will not be used anymore as a place where we will fill out tank otherwise they will be used for charging battery as car will use electric power and it will occur in automotive era because electric cars will be manufactured. In this situation, power plant, and the distribution should be prepared. This sort of topics will be discussed in CEPSI conference in Bali. We of course will have more insight on this, and we will be motivated to prepare electric power that is more reliable for the community prosperity. It is not focused only for electricity ration which is still 60 percent that will be increased to be 100 percent in the year 2025.

“The secretary General of CEPSI was optimistic that by the coming meeting of experts and CEO conference in Bali, as a host we would learn more and we would get benefit for the progress of electricity connected with renewable innovation. We also hope that MKI as a host will get commercial benefit from this activity although it is not the prime objective as MKI is a non profit organization and what we expect is a CEPSI successful event.” he concluded.
